Dumpster permits on Cape Cod

Most Cape driveways do not need a town permit. The street does. Falmouth is the town that also permits private-property cans.

Driveway, most towns

A temporary roll-off on your own driveway is usually not a town permit in Bourne, Sandwich, Mashpee, Barnstable, and east through Provincetown. The town still cares if the can sits in the public way.

Falmouth

Dumpsters larger than 6 cubic yards need a Fire Prevention permit even on private property. Current fee listed by the town is $25. Same-day in-and-out cans can be exempt. The owner or refuse generator pulls it — details on the Falmouth dumpster-rental page.

Street placement

If the only legal spot is the road, call the town before we leave. We will not surprise a historic district with a can in the travel lane.
